Cantonments are one of the greenest areas of the Country. Dehradun Cantt has a rich diversity of local flora. The Cantonment Board is providing yeoman services to the immediate environment by planting trees, maintaining Parks and Gardens and keeping the general environment free of pollution.

During the year 2005-06, 7000 saplings of various varieties were planted in the Cantonment area. During the year 2006-07 there was a special drive to carry out plantation of Jatropha which is also a source of bio-diesel.

The parks maintained by the Cantonment Board are being given an aesthetic look in order to attract the users.

Burning of garbage has been prohibited within the Cantonment area. The use of polythene has also been banned. The Cantonment Board is also planning to implement programmes for segregation of bio degradable and non bio degradable wastes at the source of generation. The active participation of users is solicited in this endeavor of the Board. |

To maintain the ground water table of the Cantonment area the Board has made the provisions of rain water harvesting in new constructions mandatory. Building plans for such constructions will be sanctioned only if they have the provisions for rain water harvesting.
