BYELAWS FOR THE REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS AND DEATHS IN THE DEHRADUN CANTONMENT MADE BY DEHRADUN CANTONMENT BOARD, DEHRADUN IN EXERCISE OF POWERS CONFERRED BY CLAUSE(1) OF SECTION 282, 283 OF CANTONMENTS ACT, 1924(II OF 1924) |

1. |
The head of every family resident in or on a visit in Dehradun Cantonment and the keeper or person in charge, of every lodging-house, dharamshala, sarai, hospital or other similar institutions therein, shall within seven days of the occurrence of any birth or death in his family or among persons staying in the said institutions report the same personally or by any agent, or in writing to the Cantonment Executive Officer, Dehradun in accordance with provisions of the following byelaws:- |

NOTE:- In these following byelaws 'births' shall include "still births" which shall be distinctly specified. |

2. |
The report shall contain the following particulars :- |
|
|
(a) |
Regarding births |
|
|
|
(i) |
Date and time of birth. |
|
|
(ii) |
Name (if any) and nationality of child. |
|
|
(iii) |
Whether still born. |
|
|
(iv) |
Name of father or mother. |
|
|
(v) |
Sex. |
|
|
(vi) |
Caste. |
|
|
(vii) |
Profession of parent. |
|
|
(viii) |
Name of Mohalla, number of house according to doorplate. |
|
|
(ix) |
Name of reporter. |
|
|
(x) |
Signature of recording officer with date. |
|
|
|
(b) |
Regarding deaths |
|
|
|
(i) |
Date and time of death. |
|
|
(ii) |
Name and nationality of deceased and name of deceased's father, husband or guardian. |
|
|
(iii) |
Sex. |
|
|
(iv) |
Caste and profession. |
|
|
(v) |
Age. |
|
|
(vi) |
Cause of death attested by a medical practitioner when one was in attendance . |
|
|
(vii) |
Name of mohalla, number of house according to doorplate. |
|
|
(viii) |
Place of cremation or burial . |
|
|
(ix) |
Name of medical practitioner who attended the deceased during the last illness. |
|
|
(x) |
Name of reporter. |
|
|
(xi) |
Signature of recording officer. |
|
|

| |
Provided that if the deceased be a pardanashin woman, the entry of her name shall not be necessary and it will be sufficient to enter the relation which she bears to the head of her family. |

3. |
The report shall be made to the clerk-in-charge of registering births and deaths in the Cantonment Office, or to the Head Clerk. |
|
|
4. |
The sweeper in charge of each mohalla shall report personally within seven days of its occurrence, any birth or death in his mohalla to the Cantonment Sanitary Inspector. |

5. |
(i) |
Any clerical error which may at any time be discovered in any register of births or deaths may be corrected by the Executive Officer. |
|
|
(ii) |
Any error of fact or substance in any register of births or deaths may be corrected by the Executive Officer by an entry in the margin, without any alteration of the original entry upon production by the person requiring such correction of a declaration on oath or solemn affirmation setting forth the nature of error and the true facts of the case made before a 1st class Magistrate by the person required to give information concerning the birth or death with reference to which the error has been made or in default of such person by two responsible persons having knowledge of the case, and certified by such Magistrate to have been made in his presence. |

In the case of non-Indians, the report regarding death shall contain the following information: |
|
|
|
(i) |
Name and nationality of the deceased - Mr/Miss/Mrs. |
|
|
(ii) |
Approximate age. |
|
|
(iii) |
Profession. |
|
|
(iv) |
Place and date of death. |
|
|
(v) |
Cause of death. |
|
|
(vi) |
Dependents or relation/friend, if any. |
|
|
(vii) |
Address of any relative in the country of the deceased. |
|
|

7. |
Copies of the birth and death reports in respect of non-Indians shall be forwarded to the Registrar General, Births, Deaths and Marriages, Madres. |
|
|
8. |
Any person committing a breach of any of these byelaws shall, on conviction be punishable with fine which may extend to fifty rupees and in the case of a continuing contravention, with an additional fine which may extend to ten rupees for every day during which such contravention continues after conviction for the first such contravention. |
