BYELAWS FOR THE REGULATION ASSESSMENT AND RECOVERY OF CANAL WATER CHARGES IN DEHRADUN CANTONMENT UNDER SECTION 282(34) OF CANTONMENTS ACT, 1924
   
 
1.

No person shall use the Cantonment Canal Water without permission in writing from the Executive Officer, or without paying such charges as are fixed by the Cantonment authority having regard to the rates in force in the Government canal department.

Charges for water used for other than irrigation purposes. With the previous permission of the Executive Officer tanks may be filled, or water may be supplied from the Cantonment canal direct for the purposes other than irrigation at such rates and subject to such conditions as may from time to time be prescribed by the local Government.

Charges for water used for irrigation purposes. With the previous permission of the Executive Officer, tanks may be filled or water may be supplied from the Cantonment canal direct, at such rates and subject to such conditions as may from time to time be prescribed by the local Government.

Charges leviable on gardens, fields etc. partly irrigated. If only a portion of garden fields, etc. be irrigated the occupier's rates shall be chargeable on the whole garden, field etc. unless such portion shall have been clearly demarcated by a ridge not less than 6 inches high.

Charges leviable for water used without permission or at a time prohibited by the proper authority. Persons using water without permission or at a time prohibited by the proper authority willfully cutting the banks or placing bunds in bed of canal for the purposes of irrigating their garden or field etc. shall be chargeable with a punitive rate equal to twice the ordinary rate.

Water will be supplied to subscribers on the date and hours fixed by the Executive Officer.

Any damage done to the canal by the subscriber himself or subscriber's servants shall be made good in either case by the subscriber himself. The damage done will be assessed by the Executive Officer and two members of the Cantonment Board as detailed by them at a general meeting, whose assessment shall be final. If the subscriber fails to pay the damage done, within one week, the Cantonment authority will have the right to cut the water off from the defaulter's house or compound or field.

 
8.

The Cantonment authority shall not be liable to pay compensation for lack of supply of water.
